Model Student Organization Constitution
The following outline is an example of an ideal Student Organization constitution. You should review each section and select or modify this outline to fit your organization's needs.
Article I - Name The name of this organization shall be the Sample Organization.
Article II - Purpose The purpose of the Sample Organization is to promote the interests of the Metropolitan State College of Denver and to provide an opportunity for fellowship among the students of the Metropolitan State College of Denver.
Article III - Membership Membership to the Sample Organization is open to all students of the Metropolitan State College of Denver with the following qualifications:
Article IV - Dues Annual dues for the Sample Organization shall be $5.00 per member, and shall be payable in advance.
Article V - Officers The elected officers shall be President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
The term of office shall be one academic year.
Elections shall be held by the third week of the fall semester.
It shall be the duty of the President to preside over meetings.
He or she shall also reflect positively on the organization.
It shall be the duty of the Treasurer to receive, manage and disperse all organizational funds.
It shall be the duty of the Secretary to take minutes of the meetings and to deal with non-financial matters of the organization.
If an officer falls to meet job duties of his or her position the board may elect to remove said officer by a 2/3 vote.
Article VI - Meetings Robert’s Rules shall be the official rules of parliamentary proceedings for the Sample Organization.
Business meetings shall be held at least once each year, and at such additional times as the board of directors shall deem necessary.
One meeting each year shall be designated as the annual meeting for the election of officers and directors.
Article VII - Amendments This constitution may be amended at any time by a majority vote of the members of the Sample Organization.
Article VIII – Adoption This constitution shall be the official Sample Organization upon official registration with the Office of Student Activities.
PLEASE NOTE: The constitution of an organization may contain a variety of additional articles, making provisions for replacement of officers and directors, establishing standing committees, outlining election procedures, and a whole host of other matters, at the discretion of the persons drafting the document.
