MEChA de Auraria -

Todas y Todos Somos Aztlan. This is our reaffirmation of our homeland, our identification as unified peoples who are not foreign to the area that is today known as the United States of America. We acknowledge that Aztlan is our birthplace and the birthplace of our movimiento. It is through the Plan de Aztlan that we conclude “...that social, economic, cultural, and political independence is the only road to total liberation from oppression, exploitation and racism.” Todas y Todos Somos Aztlan is our way to resist our European colonization, “…the land belongs to those who plant the seeds, water the fields, and gather the crops. We do not recognize the capricious frontiers on the bronze continent.” We are consecrating the determination of our peoples and opposing the institutions that oblige us to be slaves to the dominant, oppressive routine. Todas y Todos Somos Aztlan is our philosophy of indigenismo which compliments the unification of our people throughout the entire continent, regardless of our geo-political nationality, affectional/sexual orientation/desire, sex, gender, race, class, ability and age. The Calpulli Montañas del Norte Region has chosen Todas y Todos Somos Aztlan: Nuestra Historia, Nuestra Cultura, Nuestro Futuro as the theme for the 2007 National MEChA Conference being held at the Auraria campus in Denver, Colorado.

Nuestra Historia is what guides us. It is the basis of our consciousness and of our actions. It is through our stories that we establish our way of thought, our indigenismo. Our stories teach us the way of our peoples and it is through our stories that we gain the background and strength to liberate ourselves. We have chosen to include our stories as part of our theme because of the importance it has in our movimiento.

Nuestra Cultura enlightens us and unifies us. Our culture is our identification as Nican Tlaca (here people, indigenous). Nuestra Cultura is “…the moral backbone of our movement” and it is the most powerful weapon we have to defeat the existing foundation of repression. Our culture instructs to politicize, socialize, educate and mobilize ourselves and others in the ideas of el movimiento and to educate one another through our cultura on our struggle for justicia and self-determination. It is through our culture that we gain our commitment to social justice.

Nuestro Futuro is the continuance of our movimiento. Our loyalty to it enables us to strive for social justice and to trust that the future will see an end to oppression in all its forms. Our indigenismo teaches us that el movimiento is a never-ending cycle, and that we are part of a collective whole, unified by our ideals. Our teachings will result in the self-determination of our community which is the only acceptable mandate for social and political action. Nuestro Futuro is the answer to change our economic slavery, political exploitation, ethnic and cultural psychological destruction, denial of civil and human rights in a heterocentric society. The institutions of our future will serve our peoples and not have our peoples serving the institutions.

Todas y Todos somos Aztlan is not only our proud heritage but also our resistance to our colonization. We Nican Tlaca, declare our independence: “we are a nation, we are a union of free pueblos.” Todas y Todos somos Aztlan.
